Pips NYT

Pips NYT is a domino-based logic puzzle where you must place every tile to satisfy the rules of each colored region. Test your logic and see how many puzzles you can conquer in Pips today!
What is Pips NYT?
Pips NYT is a daily logic puzzle from The New York Times, built around dominoes and clever number play. Instead of matching tiles like in classic dominoes, players must fill a grid with all the given pieces while satisfying color-coded conditions.
The Essence of Pips
At its core, Pips is a domino-based logic puzzle. Unlike traditional domino play, each board is split into color-coded areas, and every area has a rule to follow:
- Number (5) - The sum of the domino halves must equal the given number.
- Equal (=) - All domino halves in the region must show the same pip count.
- Not Equal (≠) - Each half must display a different number of pips.
- Greater Than (>) - Total pip count must be larger than the target number.
- Less Than (<) - Total pip count must fall below the target number.
- Blank - A rare freedom: any domino can fit.
What key controls to play Pips NYT?
- Drag & Drop - Place dominoes onto the grid.
- Double-click - Rotate dominoes to fit into new spaces.
- Click Again - Remove dominoes from the board if misplaced.
Keys to the Puzzle of Pips
The board must be filled with the domino set provided. No empty spots, no extra tiles. The entire solution can be undone by a single wrong piece. Recognizing regional relationships, foreseeing overlaps, and simultaneously balancing several conditions are all necessary for success.
Strategy in the Grid
- Half-Tile Influence - Often, only one half of a domino lies inside a region. This forces you to think not only about the number in one area but also about its impact in the next.
- Cross-Region Pressure - A domino placed in two regions must satisfy both rules at once. A single choice can solve, or sabotage, two conditions simultaneously.
- Scaling Difficulty - The difficulty increases organically with player competence, ranging from Easy boards with no restrictions to Hard puzzles rife with multi-region disputes.
Every number has a purpose, just like in Sudoku. However, unlike Sudoku, the battlefield is dynamic, requiring foresight and flexibility because the same domino belongs to numerous locations simultaneously.
Cookie Trifecta - The Sweet Reward
Pips is not timed by default, but speed matters for those who chase perfection. Solve under the set threshold for Easy, Medium, or Hard, and you’ll earn a cookie badge. Claim all three to complete the Cookie Trifecta, a subtle nod to mastery and efficiency.
Every grid in Pips NYT is a little mystery waiting to surprise you. A new twist appears just when you believe you have it figured out. Are you able to solve each one and place them in the appropriate spot? Let's have some fun and see!
